PROCEDURES AVAILABLE AT TRI-STATE DIGESTIVE DISORDER
CENTER
EGD/Dilation
What is Upper Endoscopy?
Upper endoscopy lets your doctor examine the lining of the
upper part of your gastrointestinal tract, which includes the
esophagus, stomach and duodenum (first portion of the small intestine).
Your doctor will use a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope, which
has its own lens and light source, and will view the images on a video
monitor. You might hear your doctor or other medical staff refer to
upper endoscopy as upper GI endoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
or panendoscopy.
What is Esophageal Dilation?
Esophageal dilation is a procedure that allows your doctor to
dilate, or stretch, a narrowed area of your esophagus (swallowing
tube). Doctors can use various techniques for this procedure. Your
doctor might perform the procedure as part of a sedated endoscopy.
Alternatively, your doctor might apply a local anesthetic spray to the
back of your throat and then pass a weighted dilator through your mouth
and into your esophagus.
Colonoscopy
What is a colonoscopy?
Colonoscopy enables your doctor to examine the lining of your
colon (large intestine) for abnormalities by inserting a flexible tube
as thick as your finger into your anus and slowly advancing it into the
rectum and colon.
Liver
Biopsy
What is liver biopsy?
Liver Biopsy is a test that checks for liver disease. For
people with chronic hepatitis, it is useful for finding out the cause
as well as how much liver damage a person has.
Other patient services available through local participating
hospitals (St. Elizabeth South and St. Luke West) include:
- Manometry
- ERCP
- Capsule Endoscopy
- Bravo
- Ph Probe
